Therapeutic approaches in hair loss
Hair loss can be treated in three ways:
- Medication
- Mesotherapy, a non-invasive technique based on superficial microinjections, just below the epidermis, into the target tissues
- PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma
- Hair transplantation
In our Istanbul clinics, two of these methods can be combined: mesotherapy and hair transplantation.
FUE hair transplantation
Hair Transplantation procedure implies removing individual hair follicles from a donor site (usually the back or the sides of the head) where the hair is more resistant to thinning and balding. These groups are transplanted to the thin or bald areas, called receptor areas, where they will continue to grow naturally.
Hair follicles are typically transplanted using one of these two techniques:
- Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation (FUT): Hair units are prevailed from a donor strip that has been excised from the donor area.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): Hair units are removed individually directly from the donor area, follicle by follicle, and transplanted to thinning areas of the scalp.
Because of its obvious advantages, (FUE) Follicular Unit Extraction became the standard hair transplant procedure performed by the most of today’s surgeons.
mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is the treatment against hair loss that also stimulates hair regeneration both for men and for women, delaying the balding process in men. Some of the signs that an individual needs to recognise before seeking Mesotherapy are: hair thinning, patchy hair loss and balding.
Also, over time, mesotherapy will neutralize the DHT hormone, causing hair to grow again. Dehydrotestosterone (DHT) is the hormone responsible for excessive prostate growth and hair loss.
The mesotherapy procedure involves tiny needles injecting a vitamin cocktail into the scalp. This vitamin boost stimulates better blood circulation in the scalp and hair follicles, which results in better hair re-growth.

PRP method
PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma - is a method that uses plasma separated from the patient’s own blood, enriched with platelets. PRP - Platelet Rich Plasma is one of the state of the art procedures used in medicine, and especially in esthetic surgery, for skin regeneration.
Injecting certain plasma derivates obtained by own blood concentration (PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma) is a minimally invasive totally natural alternative treatment for regeneration.
The major advantage of this method consists in the fact that it only uses the patient’s internal resources; the autologous nature of PRP renders it an absolutely safe treatment with no side effects. Hair PRP is able to reactivate the impaired hair follicles that do not operate properly in order to provide invigorated hair. PRP determines an intense but completely natural reaction in the body, improving the function of the hair follicles by supplying the affected area with enriched cells that take up the regeneration process.
This procedure involves withdrawing blood from the patient, as if it was a normal blood test, and inserting it in a special machine that will spin the blood around for 15 minutes. This will separate the blood from clear blood plasma and concentrated rich plasma, and the concentrated platelets are what will be used on the patients scalp. The insertion of the platelets can vary from injecting it into the scalp using small needles.
